Which Is Better For Business – PSTN Or VoIP?

It is essential that business phone lines offer trouble-free communication, with seamless connectivity and minimal time spent on hold, no matter where the caller is phoning from. Modern digital technology has seen massive developments in PSTN (public switched telephone network) business telephone systems, but against this must be weighed the phenomenon of VoIP  Voice Over Internet Protocol, part of business broadband. So which is best?

PSTN has also been called the POTS Plain Old Telephone Service. Originally it referred to the old-fashioned switchboard operator service, back in the days when we still had A and B buttons in phone boxes. However, with the advent of digital telephony and business mobiles, it basically refers to anything that is not VoIP orientated.

We at 5G Telecommunications offer the very latest in mobile and fixed-line business telephone systems. Today, callers can do anything from listening to on hold marketing messages to conference calling. However, VoIP is equally promising, with the added carrot that it can be accessed from anywhere including business mobiles. As with any new technology, both systems are constantly evolving, with new hardware and applications appearing all the time.

The reason people still prefer fixed-line PSTN phone lines is down to tradition, professional image and ease of use. VoIP fans like the fact it allows concurrent transmission of voice and video data, and the lower cost. To solve the problem, many companies opt for fixed company phone lines and business broadband with VoIP ability. When you add mobiles for professional use to the mix, you have true all round communication ability on land, sea or air.
