What is the difference between 'up-speed' and 'down-speed'?

Explained simply, download speed is the speed at which your computer can pull data from your network / internet source. Upload speed is the measurement of how fast data can be uploaded from your computer on to your network / internet.

How will I be billed for my 5G services?

5G will issue you a monthly bill by email, unless otherwise stated. If you have multiple services with 5G, then you can take advantage of one monthly consolidated bill for all of your services.

What does gbps mean?

Gpbs stands for Gigabits per second, it is the term most commonly used when referring to extremely fast broadband speeds.

What does mbps mean?

Mbps stands for megabits per second, it is the measurement that is most commonly used when referring to broadband speeds.

What does kbps mean?

Kpbs stands for kilobits per second. It is a measure that is sometimes used when considering broadband speeds.

What is an ISP?

ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. Companies such as 5G act as ISPs for end users, providing them with their internet access.

Why are some broadband services slower than the advertised speeds?

The main reason that you may receive slower than advertised speeds is due to your site's distance from the local exchange, which is a common factor when considering broadband speeds. Another factor that can affect speeds is the amount of users on the line at one time.

What is Local Loop Unbundling?

Local Loop Unbundling allows third party service providers to connect dedicated lines directly to the end user, through BT's local copper exchange lines, enabling them to put on their own features and broadband capabilities, independent of BT's services.

I sometimes get the message '404 - Page not found' when trying to access a web-page, is there something wrong with my broadband?

Absolutely not. A '404' error message means that the browser cannot find the web page you're trying to view. This message generally appears if a web address is wrong or you have clicked on a broken link. But there is nothing wrong with your connection, so there is no need to worry!

Will an engineer need to visit my site to install broadband?

Only in rare cases where your lines may need to be upgraded. Most of the time, the only changes will be made at the local telephone exchange.

What does it mean if there is a flashing light on my modem?

A flashing light could mean that your modem is not properly locating a signal. Make sure the modem is correctly connected, with ADSL filters in their relevant sockets. If proper connection corrects matters and your ADSL light remains static, your problem should be resolved.

How do I set up my broadband after signing up?

Once you have signed up with 5G, you will be given a designated 'go live' date. In the mean time we will send you all the equipment you will need, along with the necessary instructions to set help set it all up. You should NOT attempt to connect your equipment before your 'go live' date.

Why does my broadband keep disconnecting itself?

Your broadband should stay on continuously, unless you tell it otherwise. So, if it keeps disconnecting for no reason, there may be a problem with your connectivity. Consult 5G's dedicated technical support team for any broadband connection queries.

Can I check how fast my broadband is currently running?

Do you supply a broadband router free of charge?

Yes, we do not charge you for the router, however there is a £5.95 charge for posting and packaging (We haven't yet found a courier service that's FOC!!).
