There Are Some Old Telephone Wires In My Offices; Can You Connect To Those For My Data Network?

No, CW1308 or Cat 3 cable is not suitable for running a data network and is only suitable for PBX extensions or standard telephones.

My New Building Has A Cabled Network In Place, But I Am Not Sure If It Is Good To Use. Can You Test It For Me?

Yes, 5G have testing equipment to certify the existing wiring in your building. We can quickly identify faulty wires and even find at what point the breakdown has occurred saving valuable time when looking at repairs. We can provide you with stats on the data network to demonstrate its functional use.

The Type Of Work We Do Will Create Static Noise, Will This Affect Our Cabling?

Yes, standard cabling will be affected by static noise. There are shielded cables available to help defend against this, along with static suppressors and these specialist applications won't break the bank.

I Only Have Small Offices And Do Not Want A Huge 19" Cabinet What Other Choice Do I Have?

Smaller data cabinets are available with a number of dedicated peripherals to suit. 5G can assist in the sourcing and application of such cabinets and will recommend them where space is of importance.

I Want To Add Some Network Points And Already Have Electrical Trunking In My Offices. Can You Hide Your Cables Within These?

No, low voltage cable such as Cat 5e or Cat 6 cannot share a conduit with power cables due to the national electrical code. 5G will advise and install new trunking on all cabling exercises.

When Should I Choose To Install Cat 6?

If you are starting fresh, it is always the best option to future proof your decision and go for the highest standards available. Most cabling networks are suspected of giving a minimum of 10 years service, during this time it could see as many as 5 technological changes. With cabling being extremely costly and very difficult to replace, Cat 6 is a clear choice for many years of good network service.

I Was Told Cat 6 Is Pointless, Is This True?

No, whilst there is currently no application that requires the bandwidth available on Cat 6, if you are choosing to move premises and start afresh by flood wiring the premises, Cat 6 would be a clear choice. The future demands for increased bandwidth will mean that by choosing Cat 6 you will be prepared for state of the art video and multimedia transmissions amongst other applications that will demand higher bandwidth availability.

Will Cat 5e Be Superseded By Cat 6?

Analyst's predictions and numerous independent polls across the internet suggest that 80% of all new cabling installations will be performed using Category 6 cable. Because Cat 6 is backward compatible with Cat 5e it makes it a clear choice for business's choosing to upgrade their premises with new infrastructure. All Cat 5e applications will work over a Cat 6 network, whilst at the same time your network is ready prepared for future developments.

Is Cat 6 Really Much Better Than Cat 5e?

Yes, because of improved transmission and better shielding from outside noise, networks running Cat 6 cabling tend to have fewer errors than those that run over Cat 5e. Higher reliability over Cat 6 means fewer re-transmissions of lost or corrupted data packets over the network as opposed to Cat 5e.

What is an RJ-45 Clip?

A male RJ45 clip is usually mounted on the end of the network cable, patch cable or telephone line cords and plugs into the female RJ45 jack which is built into either the data module or patch panel. Most modern equipment comes ready to support RJ45 connectivity.

Why Use A Patch Panel?

Patch panels provide a convenient and aesthetically pleasing way of terminating the cables that run around the building into one patch cabinet. By not using a patch panel you are missing out on several advantages. Patch panels are labelled providing easy identification of which room the cable goes to. Due to RJ45 clips being easy to use it is simple for you to move an extension or PC by simply swapping the location of the patch leads between your equipment and patch panel.

What Are Cat 5e Cables?

Cat 5e cables are the most common product in the cabling system. Cat 5e cables includes both UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) Cat 5e cable and FTP (Foiled Twisted Pair) Cat 5e cable. Cat 5e cables support an increased data rate ( presently up to 1000 Mbps) across a network infrastructure offering the same 100 MHz bandwidth Cat 5e networks are capable of supporting higher speed protocols than that of standard Cat 5.

What Are Components That Make Up A Structured Cabling System?

A structured cabling system consists of outlets which are made up of either 1 or 2 RJ45 modules mounted in a standard single gang faceplate or floor box terminals. Each of the outlets is connected to the hub. As structured cabling has a maximum length of 90 meters or less, a further 10 meters is allowed to accommodate patch cords giving you a total distance of 100 meters. At the hub, the cables from the user outlets are terminated on patch panel. These patch panels provide an RJ45 presentation on the front for patching. Patch panels are usually mounted in wall mounted or free standing 19 inch racks. RJ45 patch panels usually come with 16, 24, 32, 48 or 96 connectors. Hubs are joined to the main comms room using backbone cables which are either optical fibre or copper. In most cases optical cables are used for the data transmission and multipair copper cables are used for the voice transmission.
