Offsite Backup Case Study

"Never Again..."

Writing in as a warning to people, don't be like me...

Not being especially technically minded, I never really bothered learning about the security of my files, databases, etc; I just simply left it in the capable hands of my staff, taking for granted just how critical the information held within was to my business.

Until one day, after hiring a new database administrator, I found out just how sensitive my business was to the data that I had taken for granted. Things had not worked out with my new administrator and unfortunately I had to let him go from the business. It was not until a couple of days later, after realising that I had failed to restrict the now ex-administrator's access to my network, that things really started to go wrong.

All of a sudden, one of my most important databases would no longer open, it was corrupt. All the business critical data inside the document had gone: customer details, telephone numbers, figures etc, all vanished into thin air. There was nothing I could do at this point, having been informed by my staff that the backup database had also been accessed and was also corrupt, the document was gone... never to return.

It took a lot of time and money to replace all the data that had been lost and as a result, my business lost a lot of credibility, having to re-trace customers and ask for their details once more. I vowed that this must never happen again, and got straight on the phone to my hosting company 5G Communications to see if there was anything in the way of secure backup that they could offer me.

Now that I have taken out an offsite backup plan with 5G, I am once again confident in my files and documents, knowing that should anything similar happen to me again, at least I will have a regularly updated backup, stored safely away from the office that I could revert back to.

Don't be a fool like me, back up your documents properly because you never know just how much you will miss something until it's gone!
