The one we had we had inherited with the office was apparently once an expensive piece of equipment. The problem was that we never really knew how it worked and as our business has expanded, we’ve found it increasingly more difficult to buy new equipment to work with it. The way things are at the moment, the last thing we needed was the capital expenditure that goes along with buying a new telephone system.

I found out about 5G from the friend of a friend. He asked them to call me and the next day Iain made an appointment to come and see me.

I really can’t tell you how different it was dealing with them. The first thing he did was try to find out as much as he could about my business and the way we operate. He had the receptionist involved, the sales manager, the parts department manager, even the body shop manager on all of our sites. By the time he finished, I think he knew more about our business than most of my managers.

My biggest worry was cost. We have three sites, about 100 extensions. I had been quoted up to £45,000 for a new system, which even spread over a period of time is a huge investment. What Iain managed to do by looking at all of my telecoms contracts, my landline bills, my call charges, my mobile telephony and my broadband supplies, was to save me enough money to pay for the new system.
I could hardly believe it just by rationalising all of our telephony we’d managed to save enough money to pay for our new telephone system.

All of the calls between my 3 offices are now free. Even calls to my company mobiles are free! But with the savings we’ve made on calls  and the savings we've  made on our  land line charges meant that we could have this new system and pay no more than we had been paying previously. Another little bonus was that all of my charges are now on one bill .That’s  my calls, lines, broadband, mobiles, system and maintenance charges all on one monthly invoice. That doesn’t save me a fortune, however, when it comes to problems with my telephones  or any questions I have with billing I only have to call one number and as far as my accounts dept goes that’s one invoice instead of seven or eight.  

The real clincher in all of this though, was really nothing to do with the telephone system itself. Because all of my sites are on the same telephone system it is now possible for me to answer a call anywhere in our business no matter which site the call comes in on.  Historically it’s always been difficult and expensive to find reception cover on a Saturday for each of our sites. Now I only need one person in who can field the calls for all three sites which means the ladies only have to work one  Saturday in three, but even better is that I only have to pay them for one Saturday in three. That makes all of us very happy and has saved me about £7800 a year. Now when the ladies take time off they all cover for each other and I don’t have to pay for temporary cover which on last years  figures saved me another £4900.
